Can I increase my share?

Yes, as a leaseholder of a Shared Ownership property bought either new or as as a resale or you can buy further shares in your property, which is known as staircasing. The greater the share you buy in your home, the less rent you will pay to Moat. If you staircase to 100% you become an outright owner and pay no rent! To get to this point you can make up to three transactions, starting from as little as 10%.

What is a resale property?

As well as brand new properties, the shared ownership option is available for properties which have previously been lived in. Resales are shared ownership properties where the current owner is selling their share. Unless they are ‘fixed equity’ the principle is the same as buying a new build through shared ownership. You must purchase at least the share the seller currently owns and may purchase additional shares in the future until you own it outright, if you wish.
